GSM Phones For International TravelersGSM Phones are the ideal solution for international travelers to communicate from and to anywhere in the world. With the capability of providing service in over 170 countries, your GSM world cell phone is of no use without a sim card. SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards are the brains of the cell phone. It is the SIM card that establishes your GSM cell phone number, provides your network access, stores phone numbers and lets the local network know what services you are allowed to use like text messaging, caller id, and voicemail. There are 3 criteria necessary for your international cellphone to function properly during your international travels.
A SIM card is required to activate your phone service at your next international destination. You will need to purchase recharge cards. Recharge cards may also be referred to locally as top up cards or refill cards. They may be purchased in any country at local Tabac shops, convenience stores and authorized dealers of their respective carriers. The cell phone that you take overseas will need to be GSM, SIM unlocked and compatible with the 900mhz and 1800Mhz frequencies, for Europe, Asia and Africa (and the 1900Mhz frequency is a must for North and South America). GSM (Global Services for Mobile) is THE wireless standard used overseas. Do not expect cell phones to be cheaper in Europe (though in Asia there are some deals), particularly in Europe. A $300 cell phone in the US is not $200 in Holland and in fact may be $350. If your itinerary takes you to multiple countries then we suggest using a Global prepaid roaming card. Global roaming SIM cards do not have a home country. More detailed information is provided at the following link... |
